Starting the day off right with a wholesome and nutritious breakfast is important so that kids have the energy to power through the day. Proper nutrition is also key to learning and development for every child. We have a few tips on how to maximize the most important meal of the day:
Use fun toppers! Try using nutrient-rich toppers on whole-grain toast, waffles, pancakes or English muffins. Nut butters, fruit, veggies, and whole grain cereals can be used as a fun add-on to make smiling faces on the base item to brighten up the morning for kids!
Make smoothies. Kids love to help mix these healthy treats up. Use nut butters, Greek yogurt, bananas, strawberries, milk and even oats to whip up a fun and delicious “milkshake” type treat for your little one. If you are feeling extra adventurous, make it green and add some spinach!
Try breakfast egg muffins. Line each cup of a muffin tin with bacon. Beat several eggs (about 10) with a little milk and pour the egg mixture in the cups. Then bake about 25 minutes at 350 degrees and top with cheese. You can add in peppers and onions as well. These make a yummy protein-packed breakfast, especially if you are on the go!
Whip up some overnight oats. Another healthy idea for an on-the-go meal is overnight oats. Place 1 cup of oats with 1 cup of your milk of choice, 1-2 tbsp. honey, and a fruit such as banana or strawberries, into an airtight container. To make it extra creamy and delicious, try adding Greek yogurt, raisins, a nut butter, and a tiny dash of vanilla extract. Let refrigerate overnight and enjoy!
