Spotlight On: ACWLC Volunteer Kendyl Freedle
Since 2015 A Child’s World Learning Center of South Winston-Salem has had a special volunteer in its midst. Kendyl Freedle, daughter of ACWLC teacher and proud mom Stephanie Freedle, has been volunteering in the fours classroom at least three days a week each summer and on breaks.
Kendyl, who has taken early childhood education training classes, said that she really enjoys working with kids to make a difference. “Their smiles always brighten your day,” she said. And ACWLC is very proud to have this dedicated hard worker working with our children. “It is truly a blessing to have Kendyl at our school as a volunteer,” said Brandi Johnson, Director of ACWLC South Winston Salem. “Her smile certainly brightens our day!”
In addition to her time at ACWLC, Kendyl is no stranger to other volunteer work. The North Davidson High School rising sophomore has volunteered more than 300 hours since August of 2015. She is a long-time volunteer with Relay For Life of Davidson County, an American Cancer Society fundraiser. As an early cancer survivor, the battle against the disease is something Kendyl feels passionate about. When she was just 14 months old, Kendyl was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system, and doctors told her parents she would never learn to walk or talk, but her life tells a different story. Kendyl beat the odds and she and her family have been involved with Relay For Life fundraisers since she was diagnosed. She has her own 36-member relay team called Kendyl’s Crusaders.
Kendyl wants to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of others by becoming an occupational therapist. If you see Kendyl, don’t forget to thank her for all that she does to make a difference!
